Recent internal data shows nearly $2 billion in land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale in the White Mountain State. This comprises about 73,000 acres of land for sale in the state. Of New Hampshire's 10 counties, Carroll County had the most land for sale. There were 415 acres of sold land in New Hampshire recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. Hillsborough County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. New Hampshire, the country's fifth smallest state and its ninth least-populated, is blessed with an epic variety of land and natural assets that stretch from deserted wave-swept beaches to 48 mountain peaks above 4,000 feet. Of this landscape, some 200,000 acres of state land, 750,000 acres of national forest, and thousands more acres of private land are open to hunting. A number of outfitters and private guides will take hunters out to bag moose and bear, while hunting lodges throughout the Great North Woods will inspire a lifetime love of the hunting lifestyle. Fishing is equally epic here, with the state's many lakes, rivers, ponds, and coastal waters offering the chance to cast for everything from trout to pike to bluefish. WalletHub, a personal finance website, has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including affordability, quality of life and health care. New Hampshire ranks among the country's smallest states in terms of size, covering an area of 9,351 square miles (6 million acres). In its entirety, 8,953 square miles is land, while the remaining 397 square miles comprises water.
